When should you hit or stand in blackjack?

QUICK ANSWER

Hit any hard total of 11 or less. Stand on hard 17 or more. In between (12–16), stand when the dealer shows a weak card (2–6) and hit when they show a strong card (7–A). This is because a weak dealer up-card is more likely to bust.

Why stand on 16 vs 6?

The dealer is likely to bust with a 6 showing (~42%). Standing lets them beat themselves. Hitting risks busting first.
